The Alabama Crimson Tide improved year over year by all meaningful metrics when comparing 2024 to 2025. More wins, an SEC Championship appearance, and a College Football Playoff birth that resulted in a win over the Oklahoma Sooners there was a lot to be happy about.
However, when Alabama lost in 2025, it tended to lose badly. That was due in large part to the team’s identity not resembling the Crimson Tide teams of the past. The trenches on both sides of the ball weren’t good enough, and both of them have experienced a large amount of turnover since the end of the Rose Bowl. Well, it’s been obvious throughout the portal window that Alabama took that seriously, and it just put the cherry on top.
Alabama receives commitment from Oregon transfer DL Terrance Green
Green entered the portal very late in the process, following the Oregon Ducks getting dismantled by the Indiana Hoosiers, but he immediately became the top interior defender and one of the best players overall. After losing the entirety of the interior, Alabama has now added Green to go with Devan Thompkins and Kedrick Bingley-Jones. For more on the Green commitment, here is A to Z Sports contributor Josh Taylor.
“Green is a big addition with both size and experience. He played the third-most snaps for the Ducks in the interior of the defensive line and played in 15 games last season. Alabama clearly needed to reestablish the trenches on defense, and stop the run, and that’s what Green will do at 6-5, 330 pounds. He still has two years of eligibility remaining as well, so this could be more than just a short-term rental, but a real staple piece up front. The Crimson Tide will have a stone wall up front with Green and Thompkins, and the loss of Smith was quickly filled with an upgrade.”
Alabama secures commitments from OL Ethan Fields, Nick Brooks
If you thought Ty Haywood and Kaden Strayhorn were all you would see for the Crimson Tide along the offensive line in this portal, think again. Alabama has added four potential starters to go alongside Michael Carroll when accounting for Haywood, Strayhorn, and now SEC transfers via Brooks and Fields. If anything is certain about 2026, it’s that the trenches will look different, and that’s not a bad thing.
