ATHENS, Ga. – The Mississippi State volleyball team wrapped up their 2024 season on a tough note, falling to the Georgia Bulldogs 3-1 in their final match of the year. Schmidt, who played in her final match as a Bulldog, led her team offensively with 16 kills, finishing the match with a solid .300 hitting percentage. It was the 10th time in the last 11 matches that Schmidt posted double-digit kills, solidifying her as one of the standout performers for Mississippi State throughout the season.
Also playing in her final match for Mississippi State, senior Amina Shackelford made a strong impact with a season-high-tying 15 kills. Shackelford’s performance included eight digs, matching her best defensive effort of the year. Her contributions on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball were a testament to her leadership throughout her career at Mississippi State.
The Bulldogs also received significant contributions from their defensive unit, with three players finishing with double-digit digs. Mele Corral-Blagojevich, who started the match as the team’s libero, posted a team-high 16 digs, showcasing her skill and consistency on defense. Mary Neal, who came in for the final set, ended the match with 12 digs, while Ceci Harness recorded her eighth double-double of the season, contributing 39 assists along with 14 digs. Harness’ ability to set up her teammates while also playing strong defense was crucial throughout the match.

Looking forward, the Bulldogs will aim to build on the growth shown throughout the season. While the loss to Georgia closed the 2024 campaign, the leadership and strong performances from the seniors will serve as a foundation for the program as they look to regroup and return stronger for the next season.
As the Bulldogs move into the offseason, the coaching staff will focus on developing the team’s young players while working to improve areas that were exposed during this season. The team’s resolve and individual accomplishments, especially from the seniors, will provide valuable lessons as Mississippi State prepares for the future.
