Knoxville, Tenn. —
It’s about legacy. Passion. Purpose. In a seismic shift for Tennessee Football, eight of the greatest to ever wear orange are stepping back into the spotlight—not to be celebrated, but to contribute. This is not nostalgia. This is a revolution.

Phillip Fulmer, Butch Jones, Peyton Manning, Eric Berry, Jason Witten, Al Wilson, John Henderson, and Tee Martin are back, each taking on a specialized role to spark Tennessee’s return to SEC and national prominence.

Their mission? Solve football problems with football minds.
Return to the program’s roots.
And lead with power, purpose, and pride.

Phillip Fulmer – The Architect of Accountability

Senior Program Advisor & Team Identity Strategist

The man who led Tennessee to its last national title in 1998 returns as the steady hand behind the scenes. Phillip Fulmer will oversee the culture, structure, and overall integrity of the football operation—ensuring discipline, focus, and a relentless drive to win.

“Excellence isn’t just a goal. It’s a standard. That’s what we’re here to restore,” Fulmer declares.

Butch Jones

has demonstrated a strong ability to recruit high-level athletes, particularly in the competitive Southeast region. He has a proven track record of securing top-20 recruiting classes by building solid relationships with high school coaches and is skilled at identifying versatile players who fit well in modern offensive schemes. His talent for spotting and attracting the right kind of athletes can be a major asset in strengthening the team’s roster.

Beyond recruiting, Jones brings valuable experience in program building and culture development, having successfully helped rebuild programs following down years. He emphasizes team discipline, conditioning, and creating a positive environment for players. Additionally, Jones is known for his motivational leadership, using speeches and personal engagement to inspire players, foster team unity, and promote accountability both on and off the field. During his previous tenure, he also contributed to improving facilities and enhancing the program’s branding.

Peyton Manning – The Field General Returns

Quarterback Consultant & Offensive Architect

The sheriff is back. Peyton Manning’s unmatched football IQ will guide the Vols’ signal-callers in pocket awareness, decision-making, and tempo. Peyton won’t call the plays, but he’ll reshape how they’re taught, read, and executed. Expect smarter audibles and unstoppable rhythm.

“You don’t just run plays. You run the game. That’s what Tennessee quarterbacks need to understand,” Peyton explains.

Eric Berry – The Guardian of the Backfield

Role: Secondary Leadership Consultant

Known for his fearless style and freakish instincts, Eric Berry will work directly with the safeties and corners—teaching split-second reads, disguised coverages, and how to turn defense into chaos. Berry’s presence brings swagger back to the Vols’ secondary.

“It’s not about reacting. It’s about owning the field before the snap,” Berry says.

Jason Witten – Tight End Development Lead

Tight End Mentor & Short-Yardage Strategist

One of the greatest tight ends in NFL history, Witten returns to Knoxville to develop versatile, pro-ready weapons. From blocking techniques to seam routes, he’s teaching what it takes to be physical and precise. Tennessee’s red-zone efficiency just got a whole lot better.

“Toughness isn’t a skill—it’s a lifestyle. These guys will learn how to dominate every snap,” Witten states.

Al Wilson – The Emotional Engine

Role: Linebacker Development & Locker Room Commander

You could hear Al Wilson before you saw him on the field. A captain of the 1998 championship team, he’s bringing his fire and fury back to shape the linebacking corps. Expect his units to lead with violence, communication, and unmatched energy.

“We’re bringing the juice back to Tennessee defense. I want blood in the water every Saturday,” Wilson says.

John Henderson – The Wall in the Trenches

Defensive Line Technician & Interior Dominance Coach

At 6’7″, 330 lbs, John Henderson was a nightmare in the middle. He’s now mentoring Tennessee’s interior linemen—teaching leverage, hand combat, and gap control. The message: We don’t bend. We bury.

“We don’t let offenses breathe. We smother them. That’s Tennessee football,” Henderson rumbles.

Tee Martin – The Bridge Between Past and Present

Offensive Skill Consultant & Player Development Director

The quarterback who led the Vols to the 1998 title now returns as the connector between today’s team and its championship DNA. Tee Martin brings recruiting savvy, WR development skills, and a calm leadership presence to help skill players flourish.

“I’ve walked this path. I know what it takes to win it all,” Tee says. “Now it’s their turn.”

The Mission: Take Control and Blow the Game Away

This isn’t just a power move. It’s a strategic overhaul led by legends who know how to win on Rocky Top. The Vols aren’t rebuilding—they’re reawakening. With Fulmer’s wisdom, Peyton’s mind, Al Wilson’s heart, and Eric Berry’s fire—this group is ready to march down the field, take control, and blow the game away.

Tennessee football is no longer chasing greatness.
It’s reclaiming it.
