SHOCKING NEWS: Bill’s coach Sean McDermott strips off captain-ship from Josh Allen and Steffon Diggs over alleged……read more
After a long and tumultuous journey, it appears that the Buffalo Bills and running back/returner Nyheim Hines will be parting ways. This decision comes after a tragic jet ski accident last summer left Hines with a severe leg injury, sidelining him for the entire 2023 NFL season. Despite the adversity, Hines is expected to be available for the upcoming training camp, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Hines was acquired by the Bills midway through the 2022 season from the Indianapolis Colts in exchange for a 2023 5th-round draft pick (tight end Will Mallory). While with the Bills, Hines showcased his skills as a dynamic return man, tallying two kickoff return touchdowns in just nine games. However, his impact as a rusher was limited, with just six carries for -3 yards and five receptions for 53 yards and a touchdown in 2022.
The decision to release Hines comes at a time when the Bills are looking to solidify their running back depth chart. With Leonard Fournette also set to leave the team, 2022 second-round pick James Cook is expected to take on a more prominent role. Cook impressed last season, earning a Pro Bowl nod with 1,122 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 4.7 yards per carry. Ty Johnson, Latavius Murray, and Damien Harris are also unrestricted free agents, leaving the Bills with limited options at the position.
Hines’ departure is undoubtedly a difficult decision for the Bills, given his contributions as a return specialist. However, the team must focus on building a roster that can compete at the highest level, and unfortunately, Hines’ injury history may have played a role in the decision to move on.
