NHL Heartbreaking News: Flames’ Road Woes Deepen After Third-Period Collapse in Dallas
The Calgary Flames’ road struggles continue to haunt them, as they fell to the Dallas Stars 6-2 in a game that saw them unravel in the final period. While the final score was harsh, the Flames fought hard through the first two periods, only to be undone by a series of defensive breakdowns in the third. This loss marks their eighth consecutive defeat away from home, leaving the team searching for answers.
The game started off with promise for Calgary. Just 58 seconds in, Jonathan Huberdeau capitalized on a neutral-zone turnover forced by Martin Pospisil, giving the Flames an early lead. However, Dallas quickly responded with goals from Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson, putting the Stars in the driver’s seat. Despite falling behind, Calgary managed to even the score late in the second period when Connor Zary netted his first goal of the season, keeping the Flames within reach.
But the third period was a disaster for Calgary. The Flames, who had been strong in the final frame in recent games, couldn’t keep up with Dallas as they scored four unanswered goals. Roope Hintz, Sam Steel, and Thomas Harley (twice) capitalized on Flames’ defensive lapses, sealing the win for the Stars. The loss marks the Flames’ eighth consecutive road defeat, a streak that has left them winless in regulation on the road since mid-October.
The Flames’ road woes are becoming increasingly perplexing. Despite flashes of solid play, including good offensive pressure and extended zone time, the Flames just can’t find the back of the net consistently. Zary’s goal in the second period was a brief glimmer of hope, but the inability to build on that momentum was telling. The team has now gone 25 straight games without scoring more than three goals in a game, putting immense pressure on the defense and goaltending to deliver victories that simply aren’t materializing.

Despite the heavy defeat, there were some bright spots. Martin Pospisil’s physicality and work ethic stood out as he led the Flames with eight hits. Goaltender Dustin Wolf was also exceptional early on, making several key saves that kept his team in the game for longer than they perhaps deserved. His performance was overshadowed by the final score, but he deserved far better than what the numbers will reflect.
The Flames now turn their attention to their next game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, hoping to finally snap their road losing streak and get back on track.
