News Report: 76ers Eye Blockbuster Reunion with Top Free Agent After Eric Gordon’s Struggles
The Philadelphia 76ers have had a rough start to the season, sitting with a 3-14 record. A large part of their struggles can be attributed to the disappointing performances of veteran guards Eric Gordon and Reggie Jackson, both of whom were signed to minimum contracts in hopes of providing experienced depth. However, their production has fallen short, leaving the team in search of a more reliable option.
Gordon, once known for his scoring ability, has struggled mightily this season. Averaging just 5.1 points on 34.2% shooting, including a dismal 25% from beyond the arc, Gordon’s performance has been underwhelming. Similarly, Reggie Jackson, another veteran guard, has failed to make a significant impact, averaging 4.4 points and 2.1 assists while shooting 40.5%. Both veterans have been outperformed by rookie Jared McCain, who is already showing more promise than the two seasoned players.
Given the Sixers’ dire need for a boost in their backcourt, the team may look to make a surprising move by reuniting with Markelle Fultz. Fultz, who was the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, has established himself as a reliable playmaker and defender during his time with the Orlando Magic, after leaving Philadelphia amid disappointing stints with the team.

The 76ers are clearly in need of improvement around the edges of their roster, and Fultz could offer a better fit than Gordon or Jackson. His ability to facilitate and defend would complement the team’s current core, especially as the Sixers continue to chase playoff aspirations. The idea of a reunion with Fultz might seem surprising to some, but given the team’s current struggles, it could be a move worth considering.
While the Sixers’ season has been disappointing so far, there’s little risk in bringing Fultz back into the fold. At worst, he could provide a spark off the bench, and at best, he could help rejuvenate a backcourt in need of a change. If the Sixers are serious about improving their chances this season, adding Fultz might be a step in the right direction.
