Just In: Ohio State Buckeyes beat out by another premier college football program for elite quarterback recruit

The Ohio State Buckeyes have 21 commits in their class of 2026 and are already working to put the finishing touches on it. According to 247Sports, the Buckeyes currently hold the No. 7-ranked football recruiting class for 2026.

Ohio State is also off to a strong start with the 2027 cycle, already securing commitments from five-star wide receiver Jamier Brown and four-star quarterback Brady Edmunds.

Interestingly, the Buckeyes are aiming to take two quarterbacks in the class of 2027 — but one of their top targets is now off the board.

Four-star 2027 QB Teddy Jarrard chooses Notre Dame over Ohio State
Ohio State was in the mix for Teddy Jarrard, a four-star quarterback from North Cobb (GA), who committed to Notre Dame on Wednesday. The Fighting Irish managed to land Jarrard over other top programs, including Georgia, Michigan, Penn State, and the Buckeyes.

Taking two quarterbacks in a class isn’t new for Ohio State — the Buckeyes did it back in 2020 with C.J. Stroud and Jack Miller. Currently, the quarterback room includes junior Lincoln Kienholz, sophomore Julian Sayin, and true freshman Tavien St. Clair. By the time the 2027 class arrives on campus, it’s very possible St. Clair will be the only one remaining — and potentially the starter. Sayin is the favorite to start this season, and that could continue into 2026 if things go as expected.

Jarrard is ranked as the No. 162 overall prospect and the No. 14 quarterback nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite. Ohio State was interested adding him alongside Edmunds in the 2027 class, but instead, he’ll be heading to South Bend to play for Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish.
