After a narrow lead in the all-around on day one at the 2025 Xfinity U.S. Championships on Friday, Hezly Rivera delivered another resilient performance on Sunday evening at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans to secure her first U.S. national title.
Rivera, 17, navigated through the four events with great composure to record again the highest all-around of the competition 56.40, and win her first senior U.S. all-around title with a two-day total of 112.00.
In addition to the all-around, Rivera also won the titles on uneven bars (tied with Skye Blakely) with a two-day total of 27.60 and was victorious on balance beam 28.35 and floor 28.20.
Rivera, who trains at WOGA under coaches Valeri Liukin and Anna Liukin, was the U.S. junior national champion in the all-around in 2023 and a member of the U.S. Olympic gold medal winning team in Paris last year. She was sixth in the all-around at the U.S. Championships a year ago.
Leanne Wong was second best to Rivera on both days of competition and with a total of 111.20 earned the sliver. This is Wong’s best finish at U.S. nationals, bettering her bronze medal in the all-around in 2023.
In the second day of competition Wong performed a Cheng vault (stuck for 14.60) and a double twisting Yurchenko for a second vault to collect the title on that event. Wong was a silver and bronze world medalist in 2021, and team World champion in 2022 and 2023. She was also the alternate on the last two Olympic teams.
Joscelyn Roberson, the alternate to the Paris Olympic team, and a member of the 2023 U.S. gold winning team, finished in third place in the all-around with 109.60. Fourth was Ashlee Sullivan 107.95 followed by Simone Rose 107.90 and her teammate Jayla Hang 107.65
Skye Blakely, runner up at last year’s U.S. Championships, returned to elite competition after a torn Achilles tendon surgery and competed on bars and beam only. Blakely tied for first on uneven bars with Rivera, and placed second on balance beam.
Tokyo and Paris Olympians Simone Biles, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles and Suni Lee did not compete at this year’s event.
