Kansas State volleyball fought hard but ultimately fell short in a dramatic five-set match against UCF on Wednesday night at The Venue in Orlando, Florida. Despite a standout performance by Aniya Clinton, who registered 25 kills, the Wildcats were unable to hold off the Knights, losing 25-10, 25-27, 27-25, 19-25, 11-15.

The match was a back-and-forth affair, with Kansas State taking an early 2-1 set lead before UCF mounted a comeback to claim the decisive fifth set. The Wildcats, who dropped to 10-14 overall and 8-7 in Big 12 play, struggled with consistency in crucial moments, as UCF (9-15, 2-13 Big 12) capitalized on their defensive strengths.

Despite Kansas State’s offensive dominance, outpacing the Knights 71 kills to 63, UCF’s defense made the difference. The Knights forced 24 attack errors from the Wildcats and dominated at the net, blocking 11 K-State attempts compared to just 5 for the Wildcats. UCF’s defensive efforts were particularly evident in the final set, as they stifled Kansas State’s attack and sealed the victory.

Clinton’s 25 kills were a bright spot for the Wildcats, with three players finishing in double digits for kills. Alongside Clinton, both Ella Mae McDonald and Lacey Bowden contributed solid performances, with McDonald adding 14 kills and Bowden chipping in 11. However, the Wildcats’ offensive firepower wasn’t enough to overcome the errors and UCF’s strong blocking.
