GREAT ÑEWS: Reading are bringing him back

Reading FC manager Ruben Selles described Royals defender Amadou Mbengue as a ‘unique’ character and praised his recent form.

Mbengue has enjoyed a run of regular games in the past couple of months, partnering Tyler Bindon at centre-back which has impressed both fans and his manager.

“At centre-back it’s a very key position because of the way that we play,” said Selles.

“During the season we have used some couples and Tyler and Nelson were consistent with that because they complimented well. Tom Holmes then had a good impact on that.

“In the transfer window the situation changed and Amadou has been here working really hard playing different positions and waiting for his moment. He remarks that his best position is as a centre back.

“He’s stepped into that position in the Oxford game and showed the kind of player he can be, very dynamic and controlling big spaces, good in possession.”

As well as complimenting his recent performances, Selles also spoke about Mbengue’s qualities that he brings to the team as a person.

He continued: “He’s a player that is very vocal. I think they have been quite consistent that couple.

“The conditions of Amadou makes him unique. His character, his personality, his way, his past and the way that he fights for his opportunity. The way he came from his country (Senegal) going to France in not the best circumstances.

“We all have him in a big consideration. He’s a unique character and is a player and a person you want in your side.

“One thing we have in this club is we allow people to express themselves there is no judgement.

“It’s a joy to see him living because he’s different from the norm. When we win he is the happiest player, when we lose he is the one telling the other ones that we are going to come back stronger.”
