A 25-year-old man from Missouri, Jaylen Johnson, is facing charges of manslaughter and armed criminal action after he shot and killed his mother
, Monica McNichols-Johnson, mistaking her for an intruder. According to his lawyer, William Goldstein, Johnson believed his mother was a burglar when she entered their St Louis home at 7:30 am.
Despite efforts by Johnson’s girlfriend to assist after the shooting, Monica, aged 56, died at the scene. Johnson immediately called 911, and paramedics responded swiftly.
His lawyer claims that Johnson has been deeply distraught since the incident, stating, “He hasn’t stopped crying.” Johnson, a former college football player with no prior criminal record, had his bail set at $100,000. His lawyers highlighted that Johnson kept the gun for protection after being previously robbed at gunpoint. The tragic event has left Johnson devastated, as he grapples with the consequences of his actions.
