BREAKING: Talented CB Cam Strong commits to Gamecocks

Anderson (S.C.) T.L. Hanna cornerback Cam Strong committed to NC State Friday.

The Wolfpack offered Strong last fall and he immediately became a top cornerback target. He chose over double-digit scholarship offers, including other finalists Georgia Tech and West Virginia.

Although State didn’t pull the trigger until Oct. 2023, it recruiting Strong for a year and a half. From the start, cornerbacks coach Brian Mitchell spearheaded the Wolfpack’s recruiting efforts for the South Carolina defensive back.

“Coach Mitchell’s been recruiting me the whole time and he’s always checking up on me,” said the 6-foot, 166-pound Strong last month. “He’s been pretty consistent when it comes to recruiting me. It’s been an ongoing thing, which has been good to see.

“One thing I’ve always said about coach Mitchell is he’s more than a coach. He’s always asking about my family. He always wants to know how we’re doing. That means a lot and it shows I’m a priority for them. Our relationship is just a really natural thing, and like I said, it’s about more than football.

“Recently, his message has been about the OV and how excited they are for me to get back up there, so I can see everything. I’ve already been there three times, so I’m familiar with the place.”

Strong, a high-three-star prospect, No. 60 cornerback in the country and 12th-ranked prospect in South Carolina according to industry-generated 247Sports Composite, hopes to make his commitment in July.

Pack head coach Dave Doeren also played a vital role in Strong’s recruitment. Doeren made it clear he wanted to coach Strong at State.

“He’s told me I’m a priority and they want me,” Strong said earlier this year. “Hearing that from the head coach means a lot. And then when he came to my school, that meant a lot, too.”

Strong is a high-three-star prospect, nation’s No. 61 cornerback and 13th-ranked player in South Carolina according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.
