In a monumental announcement that is sending shockwaves throughout higher education and philanthropic circles, the University of Central Florida (UCF) has received a record-breaking $237 million donation from prominent alumnus and businessman Brian Zachary France.
The generous gift, earmarked for the construction of a new state-of-the-art residence hall, marks the largest single donation in the university’s history and one of the most significant contributions to a public university in the nation.
Brian France, the former chairman and CEO of NASCAR, made the donation as part of his ongoing commitment to education, innovation, and student welfare. France graduated from UCF in the 1980s and has remained an active member of its alumni network.
University President Alexander Cartwright praised France’s contribution as “visionary and transformative,” highlighting how the donation will directly impact student life by addressing the growing need for modern and affordable student housing.

The new residence hall, which will be named the “France Residential Complex,” is expected to feature more than 1,500 beds, high-tech amenities, collaborative learning spaces, wellness facilities, and eco-friendly design features.
Construction of the France Residential Complex is set to begin in early 2026, with completion expected by the fall semester of 2028. The facility will be located near the heart of campus, providing easy access to academic buildings and student services.
France’s donation is not only historic in scale but also symbolic of his lifelong dedication to youth development and educational opportunity. Speaking to reporters, France said the investment in UCF is an investment in the future.

Brian France served as chairman and CEO of NASCAR from 2003 to 2018, during which he oversaw the sport’s rapid expansion into new markets and its embrace of modern media. He is credited with revolutionizing NASCAR’s appeal to broader audiences.
Following his departure from NASCAR, France launched Silver Falcon Capital, Inc., a private investment firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina. As CEO of Silver Falcon, France has invested in multiple sectors, including technology, lifestyle brands, and education.
France’s philanthropic efforts have expanded in recent years, with a growing focus on youth empowerment and education. This latest gift to UCF is his most substantial and impactful contribution to date.
