Breaking News: Redick is Coming

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Charlotte Hornets want to interview former NBA guard JJ Redick for the vacant head coaching job.

Redick, 39, spent 15 seasons in the NBA before retiring in 2021 and becoming an analyst for ESPN. He began as a studio analyst and is now an in-game analyst for ESPN’s premier broadcast team, along with Mike Breen and Doris Burke. Interestingly, Redick succeeded Doc Rivers, who headed midseason to coach the Milwaukee Bucks in Milwaukee.

Having excelled at Duke prior to his protracted NBA career, Redick has links to North Carolina as well.

He interviewed for the Toronto Raptors’ vacant position last summer, and he has also been connected to a number of other jobs over the previous several seasons.

Redick played for the Orlando Magic for seven seasons after being selected with the eleventh overall pick by the team in 2006. In his last season, he also played for the New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Philadelphia 76ers.

With career averages of 12.8 points and 42% three-point shooting, he retired.

After the season, Steve Clifford resigned and went to the front office; therefore, the Hornets are currently looking for a new coach.
