Breaking News: Four-Star Wide Receiver Shocks LSU, Flips to Alabama on Signing Day

On National Signing Day, Bishop Gorman High School’s four-star wide receiver Derek Meadows made a stunning decision, flipping his commitment from LSU to Alabama. The 6-foot-6, 205-pound Meadows, who is considered the top prospect in Nevada and one of the top 10 wide receivers in the 2025 class, had previously committed to LSU in July after a visit to Baton Rouge. However, despite solid ties to the Tigers, including choosing LSU over other prominent schools like Michigan and Notre Dame, Meadows opted to sign with the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Meadows’ commitment flip comes as no surprise to LSU’s coaching staff, who were aware of his growing interest in other programs. Since committing to LSU, Meadows did not return to Baton Rouge for any visits and instead spent his fall visiting schools like Michigan and Notre Dame. With early signing day upon us, it was clear that Alabama’s push for Meadows had paid off, as the wide receiver officially became part of the Crimson Tide’s class for 2025.

Alabama’s recruitment of Meadows was particularly fierce, as they saw the potential to add a key playmaker to their roster. The Crimson Tide’s ability to secure the wide receiver on National Signing Day was a major win for head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff. Meadows’ skillset, including his impressive size and ability to dominate on the field, is expected to make a significant impact on Alabama’s future offensive plans.

Derek Meadows Commits to LSU Football
As for LSU, head coach Brian Kelly and his staff have made moves to strengthen their wide receiver group by securing two talented Louisiana prospects. Despite the loss of Meadows, LSU has signed TaRon Francis, a 6-foot, 206-pound receiver from Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, and Phillip Wright, a 6-foot, 169-pound standout from Destrehan High School. Francis is a consensus four-star recruit and the No. 1 wide receiver in Louisiana. He was also a standout track athlete, contributing to his high school’s success in the 4×100 meter relay. Wright, a dual-sport athlete, is another highly regarded four-star wide receiver and one of the fastest players in Louisiana. His speed on the track, including a 4.34 40-yard dash time, makes him a dangerous prospect on the football field.

Though losing Meadows to Alabama is a blow to LSU, the Tigers are still in a strong position with the additions of Francis and Wright. These two Louisiana wide receivers will add depth and talent to LSU’s already competitive recruiting class, setting the stage for an exciting future in Baton Rouge.
