BREAKING: TOM BRADY’S COMMENT ON JARED GOFF LEAVES FANS ASTONISHED…..READ MORE

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is facing challenges in recent games, including a season-low 161 yards in a recent loss to the Chicago Bears. Goff has also faced increased turnovers and a dip in performance as per Pro Football Focus rankings.

However, the Lions remain optimistic about Goff’s abilities and are working on improving their offensive execution. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson acknowledged that the team has struggled with pre-snap penalties and execution on second-and-long situations.Detroit Lions

To get Goff and the passing attack back on track, the Lions are focusing on executing their base passing attack better, improving their timing, and minimizing turnovers. The team is also looking forward to playing at home and feeding off the energy of their fans.

In addition to on-field adjustments, the Lions are also looking to provide Goff with the necessary support and confidence. They want him to maintain his aggressiveness while making smarter decisions with the ball.

Despite recent struggles, Goff remains a key player for the Lions, and the team believes he can bounce back with the right adjustments and support.

ALLEN PARK — Jared Goff is coming off what was arguably his worst start of the season amid a rocky stretch for the Detroit Lions and their high-powered offense.

Goff threw for a season-low 161 yards in last week’s 28-13 loss to the Chicago Bears. He had one beautiful touchdown to Josh Reynolds in the back of the end zone and a tight-window dime on a fourth-down toss to Donovan Peoples-Jones. But he threw another two interceptions and had a lost fumble on snap (with Graham Glasgow) in the tough situation of trying to claw back.

But it’s not just the increase in turnovers that’s concerning. The timing seemed off from the get in Chicago, and it was the second consecutive ultra-quiet day for do-it-all wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Sun God was limited to only three catches for 21 yards for his quietest two-game stretch since his rookie season two years ago.

Goff also received his lowest marks of the season from the folks at Pro Football Focus in Week 14. And St. Brown joined him as the two worst-graded offensive players, an obvious recipe for a long day for this Lions offense. The New Orleans Saints threw extra bodies at St. Brown while the Bears worked to take the middle of the field away, forcing Goff downfield and to the sideline.

“Yeah, you’d love to get him going,” Goff said of St. Brown. “I think he’s doing a great job. He’s been very accountable of things that he feels like he can do better, and then for me as well, I’m very much just talking to him about ways that I want to try to do better for him and get him the ball in certain ways a little bit better than we have in the last couple weeks.

“But he’s one of the best guys I’ve ever been around and have no doubts that he’s going to be just fine, and we’ll finish this season off pretty well.”

From Weeks 1 to 10, PFF had Goff ranked tops among quarterbacks.

But through the last four games? PFF slots him 34th among fellow starters with enough dropbacks to qualify, in front of only Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky and Seattle’s Drew Lock during that span.

“Yeah, I don’t know what the numbers are. I know we scored 40 against the Chargers and played pretty well against the Saints, and then the other three just didn’t do our thing quite the same way offensively,” Goff said. “And yeah, I wish there was one thing you can put your finger on, but there’s not. It’s just plain execution and doing what we’re supposed to do, and it starts with me and leading that charge and getting us back on track.”

Goff has thrown five interceptions and lost three fumbles during those four games.

But despite the rocky play and another ho-hum start after the bye, the Lions aren’t too down on their quarterback.

“Absolutely. Yeah, no, he is still playing at a high level,” offensive coordinator Ben Johnson said. “You look at the interceptions over the last four weeks, and like I said, some of them were the fourth downs early on. We had a couple like (Sam) LaPorta runs into the safety, gets thrown off his route, and ends up being a pick. So, some of those happen and then a couple of them that he wants back.

“We don’t want him to lose his aggressiveness when it comes to throwing the football. Fourth-and-3′s a good example of that. He finds (Donovan Peoples-Jones) DPJ for a huge play on fourth-and-3 last week, and that’s about as tight of a window that you could throw it into. So, we don’t ever want him to lose that.”

Johnson admitted that one area the Lions have trended backward from the start of the campaign is their base passing attack. He said aspects seemed off in Chicago, adding it was different than how they’d executed all year.

The wunderkind offensive coordinator made sure to point to those pre-snap penalties, putting the Lions in deep holes on first, second and then inevitably third down for fueling the tough stretch, though.

And those were an obvious issue against the Bears last week. It puts the offense in a hole and throws Goff into the tough situation of forcing something in an obvious passing down.

“Some of our staples that we have been doing in spring, training camp and all season long, they showed up last week in particular where, ‘God, we’re just not — we’re not doing what we say, how we installed that, how we said we were going to do it, how we’ve been doing it, how we’ve got banked reps on,’” Johnson said. “And it’s come back and bit us in the rear end. We’ve been in some second-and-longs, and those second-and-longs have become third-and-longs because we haven’t executed well on second-and-longs.

“So, listen, it’s all fixable. These guys know — they know how we can get better and how we can improve, and we’re looking forward to an opportunity to do that.”

The Lions and Goff hope their return to Ford Field under the lights on Saturday night will get them rolling again.

The Denver Broncos are one of the hottest teams in the NFL, winning six of their last seven to crack above .500 for the playoff push. And Denver’s defense looks like a completely different unit than the one that surrendered 70 points to the Miami Dolphins earlier this season.

“Yeah, ‘Pac-12 After Dark?’ Yeah, no, yeah, it’ll be fun in front of our home fans, I said this earlier on the radio, but getting in front of them, feeling their passion, their energy is going to be so important for us, and we’re excited to be there,” Goff said.

“Obviously, (Broncos cornerback Patrick) Surtain (II)’s a great player. But they’ve got a lot of good players over there. Do some variety of pressures and like you said, try to create turnovers, and that’ll be our challenge this week is making sure we’re taking care of the ball and giving us the best chance to win.”
