Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada enters the transfer portal, with Georgia being rumored as a likely landing site.

Arizona State quarterback Jaden Rashada is scheduled to use the transfer portal, he stated on Thursday. According to 247Sports, the former No. 44 overall prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle began the first two games of the 2023 season before missing nine straight games due to a recurrence of a high school ailment that necessitated surgery.

Rashada got off to a blazing start in 2023, completing 44 of 82 attempts (53.7%) for 485 yards and four touchdowns. He defeated Drew Pyne, Trenton Bourguet, and Jacob Conover for the starting role. Rashada became only the second freshman to start a season opening as quarterback for ASU, behind reigning Heisman Trophy winner and former quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Rashada’s brief career has been a rollercoaster. He initially committed to Miami.

Jaden Rashada’s possible fit at UGA

Carson Beck, Georgia’s standout quarterback, is beginning his final year with the program. Rashada might be a vital backup to bridge the gap between now and the future. The Bulldogs lost backup quarterback Brock Vandagriff to Kentucky earlier this spring, while former five-star quarterback Dylan Raiola changed his mind late in the cycle to Nebraska. Georgia’s current backup quarterbacks are Gunner Stockton and Ryan Puglisi, an incoming freshman.

“Multiple sources have indicated Georgia is a school to watch,” 247Sports’ Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz write. “The Bulldogs have spent much of the offseason trying to add depth to their quarterback room, and moving to Athens would give Rashada a chance to sit and learn for a year behind established starter Carson Beck.”

big loss for ASU

Rashada’s departure only months before the start of the 2024 season is a significant blow for Arizona State as the school moves to the Big 12 this summer. Rashada was thought to be a lock for the starting role after demonstrating last season why he was one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2023 recruiting cycle.

Michigan State Transfer Sam Leavitt might be in line to take the starting job. The former four-star quarterback moved to the program earlier this offseason after playing four games as a true freshman in East Lansing. Leavitt will battle alongside backup Trenton Bourguet, who played in eight games for the Sun Devils last season. Drew Pyne, ASU’s backup quarterback, moved to Missouri yesterday.
