Brett Howden has turned his strong start to the 2024-2025 season into a rewarding long-term commitment with the Vegas Golden Knights, signing a five-year contract extension worth $2.5 million annually. The deal runs through the end of the 2030 season, ensuring Howden’s continued presence in Sin City.
The announcement came shortly after Howden scored the second goal in a 3-2 win over Ottawa on Nov. 21. In a video shared by the Golden Knights on social media, Howden expressed his satisfaction with the deal, revealing that negotiations had been ongoing since the start of the season. The 26-year-old forward signed the contract immediately after the victory, a moment he described as “a bit of a whirlwind.”
Howden, who hails from Oakbank, Manitoba, had already enjoyed his best-ever start to an NHL season by the time the contract was finalized, having scored eight goals. His performance helped him lead the Golden Knights in even-strength goals. Howden is on track to surpass his career-high of nine goals, set in a previous season.
The timing of the contract is significant, as Howden was in the final year of his previous deal with Vegas. Reflecting on the experience, Howden credited his family, especially his wife, Meike, for helping him focus on what truly matters. “Having the support from my wife day in and day out and thinking about what’s important when we go home has been good for me,” Howden said. “It’s been a good start for the season, and I’m happy to get this done.”
In addition to his family, Howden’s sense of security and comfort in Vegas played a major role in his decision to commit long-term. “Vegas really means a lot to us, and we just feel so comfortable here,” he shared. “We love the city, we love the team, and I believe in what they’re doing here from a hockey standpoint.”

The five-year deal is a landmark achievement for Howden, who admitted that his family was “shocked” by the length of the contract. “I’ve never been in a position to sign a long-term extension before,” he noted. “Everyone was super excited. They’re the ones to thank for their unwavering support throughout everything.”
As Howden enters the prime of his career, the Golden Knights are thrilled to have him locked in for the long haul, and he’s equally excited to continue contributing to the team’s success for years to come.
