Ange Postecoglou and Tottenham may soon gain from another Fabio Paratici transfer deal.

In his Tottenham debut against Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, Bryan Gil left a lasting impression. He gave Ange Postecoglou a promising assault display.

Bryan Gil will be hoping it is the start of things to come for him at Tottenham after his starting role in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Aston Villa. Signed from Sevilla two years ago and spending the second half of the past two seasons back on loan in his home country, the winger’s appearance against the Midlands club was only his 34th in all competitions for Spurs. The vast majority of those have come from the bench, with previous managers Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte just not giving him that opportunity in the starting XI. Prior to Sunday, Gil had barely gotten a look-in under Ange Postecoglou after injury saw him miss the entirety of pre-season and kept him on the sidelines until early

After making two cameos in the club’s matches against Crystal Palace and Wolves, Gil received just his third Premier League start when Postecoglou took a risky strategy against Aston Villa. The Australian selected a back four that was made up entirely of full-backs, with Dejan Kulusevski operating in the No. 10 role and joining Rodrigo Bentancur and Giovani Lo Celso in midfield, and Gil coming in on the left wing. Instead of maybe playing it safe and selecting the seasoned duo Eric Dier and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

It was a major vote of confidence in the player, who has obviously impressed Postecoglou while training at Hotspur. How to get into the head coach’s considerations to start against the Premier League

There were moments when he shown true quality, though, particularly when he produced an inch-perfect cross that Son Heung-min was unable to head and many strong runs that caused problems for the Aston Villa defense. The 22-year-old was accurate with 42 of his 49 passes, successful with three of his four dribbles, and contributed defensively with three recoveries and three successful ground duels out of a possible five. His 64 touches of the ball over 71 minutes was nearly as many as the combined 71 from fellow attackers Son and Brennan Johnson.

“We’ve got a Monday night game and then we back it up with a Friday night game, so we’ll probably need a good deal of the squad to do those two games in the next five or six days.”

After leaving Sevilla, Gil’s career at Tottenham may not have started out the way he had hoped, but under Postecoglou, he may now have more opportunities. Due to Fabio Paratici’s forward-thinking transfer business, Tottenham has profited this season from some of his prior deals. Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie, who joined the squad in 2021 and 2022, respectively, will have a significant impact this season.
